Don’t get dropped AZ! is a grassroots campaign to encourage AHCCCS members to pay close attention to any letters they receive and to watch for renewal notices. A significant number of Medicaid members (AHCCCS in Arizona) fall off the enrollment list because they forget to or don’t get around to renewing on time.
Don’t get dropped AZ! is a grassroots campaign designed to inform, remind, encourage and equip AHCCCS members with tools to self-manage renewal or to find help from a community partner.
Don’t get dropped AZ! provides information and messages to healthcare providers and interested community groups in communicating with AHCCCS members. We envision some medical providers will offer AHCCCS members a flyer with a reminder to renew and a local phone number of an individual or organization who can assist them with a renewal application. Some community groups will use caseworkers, community health workers and others to inform people. Still other groups will offer computers and facilitators to teach people how to renew on-line and how to get valuable information from My Family Benefits, My AHCCCS and Health-e-Arizona websites. Across Arizona groups will provide trained application assistors to AHCCCS members needing renewal help.

Each year thousands of Arizonans needlessly lose their Medicaid (AHCCCS) and other benefits because they don’t renew their coverage. In the past, there were few disadvantages for forgetting to renew. However, due to planned changes to AHCCCS, failure to renew may cause some AHCCCS members to lose coverage and they may be prevented from reentering (unless they qualify in a different category). You can make a difference to many people by joining the campaign to inform AHCCCS members of the importance of renewing and letting them know there are people willing to help them. Joining is as simple as one, two, three.

We’ve developed a concise English/Spanish 1/2-page flyer for AHCCCS members that you can print, and we have left space so you can add a phone number of a local organization that will help with renewals. If you want more background you will also find fact sheets and additional details.

If you are a healthcare provider who sees AHCCCS patients, please encourage your patients to renew and hand them the member flyer. Or, print a poster for each exam room and your waiting area. If you are a community group, (faith-based, human service agency, food bank, school, or any group that works with low-income families) please use all of your normal communication channels to get the word out. This is a grassroots educational campaign and we are developing basic tools that will shape the campaign, but you hold the keys to success. If community groups, individuals, and healthcare providers each communicate using e-mail, flyers, and word of mouth, we will reach every corner of Arizona and inform those who have the most to lose.
